🎯 About the Role We are looking for an Account Executive to own new business acquisition across our SMB and lower mid-market segments. This role is ideal for an early-career closer who has cut their teeth selling cybersecurity, DevSecOps, or developer tooling and is ready to take on a full-cycle sales seat at a high-growth startup.
You'll be responsible for sourcing, qualifying, and closing deals with security and engineering leaders at fast-moving companies. You'll work closely with our Sales Development, Solutions Engineering, Marketing Ops and GTM leadership teams to build pipeline, run efficient sales cycles, and bring on customers who will grow with us. This is a high-velocity, high-ownership role—perfect for someone hungry to level up their sales career while shaping how StepSecurity wins in the SMB and mid-market.
🔧 What You'll Do
Pipeline Generation (40%)
- Partner with our Sales Development and Marketing Ops teams to build qualified pipeline through outbound prospecting, inbound follow-up, and self-sourced opportunities
- Run targeted outbound campaigns into ICP accounts using StepSecurity's research, threat intelligence content, and supply chain incident reporting
- Leverage events, communities, and the open source ecosystem to generate top-of-funnel interest
Full-Cycle Selling (50%)
- Own deals end-to-end: discovery, technical evaluation coordination, business case development, procurement, and close
- Run crisp, value-based discovery to uncover security pain around CI/CD and software supply chain risk
- Partner with Solutions Engineering on demos, PoVs, and technical evaluations
- Manage commercial negotiations, MSAs, and order forms with support from leadership, finance and legal
- Maintain accurate pipeline hygiene, forecasts, and CRM data in HubSpot
Customer Handoff & Expansion (10%)
- Ensure clean handoffs to Customer Success and Solutions Engineering post-close
- Identify expansion signals and partner with Customer Success on growth opportunities within your book of business
- Relay market and prospect feedback to Product and Marketing to sharpen our positioning
👤 Who You Are
- 3–5 years in a closing sales role (Account Executive, Account Manager, or equivalent quota-carrying seat)
- Prior sales experience in cybersecurity, DevSecOps, developer tools, or infrastructure software—selling to security, engineering, or DevOps buyers
- Demonstrated track record of hitting or exceeding quota
- Comfortable running full-cycle deals in the $10K–$100K ACV range with sales cycles measured in weeks, not quarters
- Strong written and verbal communication—you can hold a credible conversation with a Head of AppSec or a VP of Engineering
- Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable with the ambiguity of an early-stage startup
- Coachable, curious, and excited to grow with the company
💡 Nice-to-Haves
- Experience selling at an early-stage SaaS startup (Series A/B)
- Familiarity with GitHub Actions, CI/CD tooling, or the broader software supply chain security space
- Experience selling into security buyers (CISO, AppSec, Product Security) or platform/DevOps buyers
- Background working alongside a Solutions Engineer in technical sales motions
- Proficiency with HubSpot, Outreach/Salesloft, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and modern sales stack tooling
