What You'll Do

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll design and build the core services that power Palm's platform. You'll own the architecture of high-performance APIs, build and extend microservices that handle everything from data ingestion to compliance workflows, and integrate LLMs to drive intelligent data syndication for our partners and members.

You'll work across the full backend surface area and collaborate closely with product, data, and engineering to make technical decisions that directly impact the platform.

About You

• You have 7+ years of backend engineering experience with strong depth in Node.js (TypeScript) and Python

• You've built and operated microservices architectures. You understand how services communicate, where boundaries belong, and how to keep distributed systems reliable.

• You have hands-on experience building AI-powered products with LLMs. Not just prototypes, but production systems that ship to users.

• You're skilled at designing secure, performant APIs and have practical experience with caching, connection pooling, and database optimization.

• You take security and data privacy seriously, especially in systems that handle regulated or sensitive data.

• You're comfortable working with large-scale data: building pipelines, optimizing queries, and keeping systems performant as volume grows.

• You've worked with tools like Elasticsearch, Redis, Supabase, or equivalent in production environments.

• You define requirements independently, make architectural trade-offs with confidence, and deliver with minimal oversight.

• You communicate clearly. You can explain a complex system to a teammate or walk through a technical trade-off with a non-technical stakeholder.

• You document and explain your work in a way where best learnings are shared across teams

• You've built 0-to-1 or worked at an early-stage company where speed and signal matter more than process.

• You have strong opinions on when and how to invest in testing at an early-stage company.

• You're comfortable working across time zones with a distributed team.

• You are a curious self starter who thrives in learning with an eye towards fast execution
